Throughout this page, you’ll find a wealth of information to help you plan your wedding. These insights come not only from our decades of experience providing wedding entertainment, but also advice shared by other industry professionals and helpful tips from past brides and grooms reflecting on what they wish they had done differently on their special day.

How to choose the right DJ
for your wedding
At J. Palazzo Entertainment, helping couples create unforgettable wedding celebrations is our passion. When discussing wedding budgets, we often remind couples that years after the big day, guests typically remember three key things: how beautiful the bride looked, the quality of the food and service at the venue (since long wait times for food or drinks can negatively impact the experience), and how much fun they had — which is often driven by the entertainment. We recommend allocating a strong portion of your budget toward the venue, service, and entertainment to help create lasting memories.
Here are some of our suggestions for anyone choosing a DJ for their special day.
-
Try not to pick a DJ just because they’re the cheapest. There’s truth to the saying, “you get what you pay for.” At the same time, the most expensive DJ isn’t automatically the best choice. Go with the one you connect with and feel confident about. Trust your gut!
-
Select a DJ who values timely and clear communication. Good communication makes the planning process easier and helps avoid unnecessary stress.
-
Be sure to meet your DJ in person at least once before your event. It’s a great way to see if your personalities click and if they’re the right fit for your celebration.
-
Prior to meeting with your DJ, create a list of important questions, ideas, and concerns. Being prepared helps your DJ better understand your vision and ensures nothing important gets overlooked.
-
Be sure to communicate your music preferences and the type of energy and atmosphere you want for your event. A great DJ will work with you to create the perfect experience, because your celebration should reflect your style and personality.
-
When selecting a DJ, be wary of anyone who claims to specialize in every style of music or event. Skilled DJs are often versatile, but the most reputable professionals typically have areas where their experience and performance truly shine.
-
Don’t be alarmed if a DJ asks for a non-refundable deposit. This simply means they are holding your date and turning away other potential bookings. If you cancel at the last minute, it can be difficult for them to replace that event. That said, it’s always smart to ask whether your deposit could be applied to a new date if you need to reschedule.
-
Always confirm that your DJ arrives with backup equipment. Professional DJs prepare for unexpected technical issues to ensure your event runs smoothly without interruptions.
-
Resist the temptation to hire the first DJ you meet. Interviewing at least three DJs allows you to evaluate different pricing, services, and personalities, helping you make a confident and well-informed decision.
-
Be sure to ask your DJ if they will attend your rehearsal, whether it is included in their quoted price or requires an additional fee, and if they are in charge of coordinating and properly organizing the wedding party introductions.
At J. Palazzo Entertainment, our DJs are proud to provide all of these services and more to help make your wedding day unforgettable.
During our initial in-person consultation, we focus on understanding your vision and designing an entertainment experience tailored specifically to your dream wedding — all while working within your budget.
During your consultation, we will also review our service contract with you, which outlines all the important details regarding your special day, including confirmation of your deposit to officially secure your event date.
We are committed to outstanding customer service and offer prompt communication through phone, text, in-person meetings, and Zoom consultations for your convenience.
Attendance at your rehearsal IS INCLUDED in our agreed upon price. During the rehearsal we will provide all the music you requested for your wedding party reception entrance and will coordinate and ensure wedding party introductions are organized and executed seamlessly.
Additionally, our DJs always arrive fully prepared with backup equipment to ensure that any unexpected technical issues have little to no impact on your event.
We hope this information helps you in choosing the perfect entertainment for your special day!!

Wedding Party Most Overlooked (Bridal Party)

7. Fluffing the bride’s dress
8. The aisle handoff. Whether it’s a hug, handshake, or smooth transition, deciding this ahead of time avoids awkwardness.
9. Where everyone stands once you’re up there. Knowing spacing and placement keeps things calm and natural, especially for photos.
10. Where to look during your vows. It’s easy to lock eyes with the officiant, but looking at each other is what makes it feel personal and grounded.
11. Exchanging rings. Which hand, which finger, and how you’re actually passing them without fumbling in the moment.
12. Your recessional. That just-married walk back down the aisle feels fast. Practicing helps with timing, confidence, and knowing if you want a pause, a kiss, or just to soak it in.
13. None of this is about perfection. It’s about feeling present instead of nervous.

Emotional moments most couples feel during their wedding day, and the music that makes them unforgettable...
-
When your processional song starts and the two of you lock eyes is the moment every bride dreams of. But there’s nothing that can quite prepare you for hearing the first few notes of your song. The intro should be tender, intimate, and deeply you.
-
When the ceremony ends and the exit song kicks in. That “we did it” wave of joy?
-
When your reception has music that actually matches you. The right vibe here shapes the whole day.
-
When your names are announced into dinner + everyone cheers. This moment should be EPIC!!
It needs to be a song that can match your “we did it” energy!
-
When your first dance becomes real. Not posed. Not performative. Just… you two.
-
When the DJ reads the room and chooses the right songs to make the dance floor come alive!
-
When the last song of the night plays and everyone is singing your names, arms around shoulders, phones down, hearts full of love for the both of you.
These are the moments people replay in their heads for years. And the music is the thread that ties them all
together.

Do's & Don'ts of Cocktail Hour
Don't: Make guests wait too long for drinks. Long bar lines kill the vibe fast.
Do: Have a well-staffed bar and a signature drink keeps things flowing from the start!
Don't: Skip appetizers entirely. Hungry guests = cranky guests.
Do: Offer hors d’oeuvres or fruit / cheese & cracker trays for your guests to enjoy. This not only keeps your guests happy but it helps soak up the alcohol they're consuming.
Don't: Overlook the flow of the space. Crowded corners, unclear transitions, or no seating can throw things off.
Do: Offer seating and areas away from the flow of foot traffic. Comfort, movement, and lighting matter more than you think.
Don't: Forget about atmosphere. Cocktail hour shouldn’t feel like downtime.
Do: Offer soft background music or live musicians to help set the mood and keep conversations flowing.
Don't: Disappear the entire time. Photos matter, but popping into cocktail hour for even 10–15 minutes creates connection with your guests and let's them know you're glad they could attend.
Little things like these can go a long way in making cocktail hour feel thoughtful and elevated.

Timeline Tips
Most couples build a timeline that looks great on paper but forget one thing, you actually need to eat, breathe, and enjoy it. Here’s five ways to protect your energy.
1️⃣ Block “no one bothers us” meals.
Put 15 to 20 minutes on the timeline where you and your partner sit down and eat without guests or vendors pulling you. Tell your planner, DJ, and photo video team this time is protected. When it’s on the schedule, people respect it.
2️⃣ Shorten the photo marathon.
You don’t need 50 group combos. Build a tight family list, do wedding party photos in one or two spots, and save extra portraits for later in the night. A focused list buys you breathing room instead of sprinting from shot to shot.
3️⃣ Add tiny buffers around big moments.
Hair and makeup, getting dressed, travel, ceremony start, and family photos almost always run a little late. Add 10 extra minutes around each one. Those small buffers let you grab water, breathe, and reset instead of feeling behind all day.
4️⃣ Plan one quiet reset together.
Put a 5 to 10 minute “just us” break on the timeline right after the ceremony or right before you walk into the reception. No photos, no bridal party, just a quick breather to say “we actually did it” and feel your shoulders drop.
5️⃣ Let your vendors reality check the plan.
Share the timeline early and ask your planner, DJ, and photo video team where they see red flags. They know how long things really take in 2025 weddings, with travel, content moments, and TikTok breaks. When everyone’s working off the same realistic plan, you’re not the one trying to fix things in real time.
A good timeline isn’t about squeezing in more. It’s about giving you space to actually live the day you paid for.

1. Hair and Makeup Time Miscalculation
Those getting-ready moments are precious. You’ll talk, laugh, take photos, someone wants another touch-up - and suddenly realize three hours have passed. Communicate with your HMUA & planner to add extra time.
2. Getting Dressed Takes MUCH Longer
It just takes longer to get dressed on your wedding day. Between intricate wedding attire, multiple layers, helping hands, emotional moments, and perfect shots - what you think takes 15 mins actually requires 30 mins.
3. Transportation and Travel Time
Multiple locations mean complex logistics. Calculate extra travel times between getting ready spot, ceremony, and reception. Consider guest transportation too - traffic, parking, and unexpected delays.
4. Your Bridal Party Has No Clue
Nobody knows the exact schedule except you. As a planner, I always create a separate timeline for the bridal party & immediate family - where to be, when to arrive, what’s happening.
5. No Plan for Family Photos
Finding your Uncle Tom during the cocktail hour would be much harder. Tell immediate family to show up a bit before the ceremony for family pictures. Situations vary, and sometimes we’re not able to schedule these before the ceremony, though a family photo list helps A LOT.
6. Not considering the sunset
Golden hour photos are magic. Check sunset time and plan your pics accordingly.
7. Skipping Personal “Chill Time” It’s perfectly fine to remove yourselves from the chaos for a moment of alone time.
